Under age Drink Driving?
The most common drink driving offences are males between the ages of 18-30 registering less than or equal to 0.100% BAC. So common, in fact, there is very little to no media attention ever given to them and most cases are settled quickly and quietly.
It also means when there is media attention given to a drink driving case it's usually quite extraordinary, of someone well above twice, three times or in a case in North Adelaide earlier this week 4 times, 0.212% BAC!
Even more rare though was a case in late July this year. A 13 year old boy was caught drink driving in Northern NSW with a middle aged man sitting in the passenger seat. Of course he was convicted not only of drink driving but unlicensed driving.
There doesn't seem to be much we can do to stop the rare occasion of idiocy but RTA NSW says, "Don't try to estimate your BAC. Measure it." And recommend using an alcosense breathalyser that complies with Australian Standards AS-3547.
