Police targeting Footy

The Tasmanian Police will be targeting Drink Driving this finals season with extra Booze Buses out on roads.

Aside from Christmas and New Years September finals season is the busiest time for Police across Australia when it comes to booking drink drivers and it's unfortunately a time that has become synonymous with road deaths.

Last year almost 400 Tasmanian drivers were charged with drink driving in September, 4 per cent higher than the monthly average.

Road Safety Council Chair, John Gledhill said alcohol was a factor in 5 of 13 fatalities and 35 of 131 serious injuries during the September period over the last five years and is appealing to all drivers to be responsible on the roads this September.

A Tasmanian Police spokesman said random breath testing operations will be taking place across the sate -- day and night -- throughout September and with the AFL Grand Final being played in the first week of October this year, Police will be extending traffic operations over that weekend also.

Don't try and guess your limit and take responsibility into your own hands this finals season. Grab an alcosense breathalyser and know your limit!
