"Booze Boat"

Cairns is taking the testing of drink drivers out on to the water. The new, 'Booze Boat' will work just like a 'Booze Bus' according to Curtis Pitt, member for Mulgrave. This will help Queensland water police keep the waterways safe.

Data has revealed alcohol was a contributing factor in 10 out of a total 50 deaths in marine incidents in the Cairns region since 1992. The 2010 Marine Incident report has shown at least 4 of the 14 people who died in fatal marine incidents in Queensland for that year had consumed alcohol immediately prior to the incidents.

Same as on the road the Skipper must have a blood alcohol limit of less than 0.05% the same as on the road.

Maritime safety Queensland are dedicated to tackling the issue of drink driving 'boaties' to prove this commitment they have purchased a $9,000 state-of-the-art breathalyser unit and presented it to the Cairns Water Police.

You should always know your limit on the road and now on the water as well, an alcosense breathalyser will always let you know whether you're safe.
